Church of England clergy plan mass exit over women bishops

Have you heard the one about the “normal”, mainstream church that was inclusive and egalitarian and non-sexist, and whose clergy all got on like one big, happy family? Me, neither. Full points to Archbishop Rowan Williams for trying (again), though:

As the wider Anglican Communion fragments over homosexuality, England’s established Church is moving towards its own crisis with a crucial vote on women bishops this weekend. —The Times Online

In a letter to Williams, the “traditionalists” state, in part:

We do not write this in a spirit of making threats or throwing down gauntlets.

They’re not saying they’ll take their toys and go home if they don’t get their way but, coincidentally:

The Catholic Church is short of priests and is expected to welcome them again, even if they are married with families, as it did when the Church of England ordained women priests.

Wait a minute — there are Catholic priests with wives and children?? One wonders how the Catholic priests who didn’t come in through the Anglican-back-door feel about that.

Plus ça change…

Rogers’ iPhone 3G Voice & Data Packages SUCK

Rogers’ Canadian iPhone 3G Voice & Data Packages

I wonder how many Rogers executives…

  1. start their evenings at 9 pm?
  2. only spend two hours a month on the phone?
  3. would ever pay $2 to listen to shitty ringtones?
  4. would ever send 10000 text messages in a month?

Plus, if I pay another $15, I can get Caller Ring Trax! What a deal!! Only $2 for a shitty selection of shitty music at exorbitant rates! Where do I sign up?

TidBITS Safe Computing: How to Protect Yourself From The New Mac OS X Trojans

How to Protect Yourself From The New Mac OS X Trojans

The first rule of using a Mac is to always trust Adam Engst. I’ve been trusting him for 15 years, and I’ve never regretted it.

This issue isn’t likely too likely to bite any individual user, but the precaution is easy to take.

All that remains to be seen is whether the next patch from Apple requires us to put ARDAgent.app back before patching.

WALL•E Review by John Anderson, Washington Post

WALL•E (2008) review:

The idea that a company in the business of mainstream entertainment would make something as creative, substantial and cautionary as WALL-E has to raise your hopes for humanity.

—John Anderson, Washington Post

That’s a lot to pin on a movie. Can’t wait to see it. Hopefully Thomas Newman’s score is up to his usual standards.

I suppose it could be a coincidence that the show recently directed a lot of heat in Industry Minister Jim Prentice’s direction…
