Good bye iPod, I’ll miss you
My 5th generation iPod (30 GB) has given up the ghost. Sad iPod icon and everything. ‘Josiah’ at Apple tech support says it’s probably the hard drive, and that it’s not likely worth fixing; since it’s out of warranty, the repair cost is nearly as much as the replacement cost. Ah, disposable technology… Is there any other kind? ![]()

Hey man,
Sorry to hear about your iPod
So I stumbled accros your blog and randomly I actually happen to run an iPod repair business. I do know for a fact that a new hard drive could be installed for only $75. Still better than buying a new iPod if you ask me… but I’ll cut the sales pitch
Just check out my website if you’re interested.

Have you also tried repairing it yourself? I remember I was tempted to do so with my 4th gen 20GB one, which had the hard drive cable chronically disconnected. Nice blog, by the way. Not too many local ones in the area.

Meh. Could’ve ripped it open and had a look, but then I’d've run the risk of not having a good, solid excuse to buy a shiny, new 32 GB iPod touch…
